Christmas in Connecticut

This was a nice movie - it got me thinking about Christmas gifts. I've always wanted to make a pile of mittens for gifts - each pair connected by a long ribbon. Then I'd have to think of a game where everyone stands on one side of the room and chooses a mitten, and then unravels the tangle to the other mitten? No, I think it has to be some sort of team sport, and that ribbon has to be elastic, a slingshot game. I have to think about this while I continue my Olympic knitting.

I'm trying hard not to think about Christmas gifts but yesterday I picked up the new Vogue Knitting with all the mittens in it and started thinking in that direction and now your post is really putting a fire under that idea in my brain! What is it about August and Christmas - they just go together for me for some reason.

I have always wanted to do a row of felted clogs for every member of the household, and leave them out in the morning stuffed with Pez dispensers etc.

This is something one could do with enough devotion to repetitive knitting.

Fair isle mittens would be much cooler but more ambitious.

I've started on my Christmas knitting--all socks, all in DK cashmere (washable!)--but still don't have high hopes I'll finish by December. The problem is, I keep adding more socks to my list. The Infinite Roll Call of Socks.
