Leafcloths

We've been weaving potholders which naturally leads to knitting dishcloths which has lead to leafcloths. They look so pretty scattered on the counter, left in the sink, drying on the faucet. They can easily be pressed into service as coasters or set under flowerpots. The slip stitch dishrags are actually swatches for a rug.

Please explain that round one peeking out at the right side. Is it knitted? And if so, how?

Love the leaves. So organic. Genius!

I am also very drawn to and excited by your "leafcloth." It is wonderful.

In fact, I am so excited that I have begun to noodle about with some worsted, size 10 needles and various increases and decreases in garter stitch. Anything you're willing to share about your methods would be appreciated!

Thank you for this and for your wonderful, inspirational blog.

The leafcloth is great. I like the broken symettry and how the gaps between rows look like the veins of a leaf.

I'd love to make a view of those.

Brilliant! It looks like lettuce waiting for a rinse. And I'll bet it's handier than full-size dishcloths which I find are too big when they're wet.

Elizabeth, grab some dishcloth cotton and cast on 40 stitches, knit two rows, then begin short-rowing yourself some leaf from the tip down to the stem. In another color (or not) pick up stitches along the cast on edge, knit two rows and short row some more leaf. I like to cast on and bind off a few stitches along the edge to make it leafy looking. In the photo you can see the garter stitch shorts rows. I'll post another photo.

Kay, that was a crochet circle experiment. No one likes to use it because it is too sturdy to wipe up stuff with.
