While cleaning the hallway I found the umbrella stand. I bought some lilac stems this morning and snipped some things from the yard and now I have my very own arrangement a la "Simple Flowers". I love the photos in this book and the simple advice. The chapter on containers is good too.
Very pretty; I love flowers, etc. from the yard and finding unusual things to put them in! I brought in some forsythia I had to cut back. Love it!
ReplyDeleteUmbrella stand! I love that, and the flowers too - and the (are they?) geranium leaves. Or nasturtium? Anyway, I love its expansive airiness!
ReplyDeleteSome years ago I took an ikebana class from Marcia Shibata, a teacher in the Sogetsu style. (Her work is amazing, btw - I once saw something she did with only dandelions - extravagant and utterly ravishing.) There is so much to love and appreciate about all the ikebana schools, but Sogetsu forms in particular, I think, always have this immediacy and sparkle, to me, somehow...
But curiously, ikebana is what gave me an appreciation for Western flower arranging. I had once dismissed it as either artless or deadly formal. Now I will have to seek out Spry.
You are forever putting items on my to-look-for-and-do list, Mrs Lear!
Wish I was there. Northern Ohio has 3 inches of snow on the ground on March 26th!!
ReplyDeleteNo flowers yet. Not really.
ReplyDeleteCrocuses and snowdrops are all that's out right now. Can't wait for more.
That's gorgeous. I put together an arrangement of hypericum berries and ranunculus (from WFM) in three empty liquor bottles for the table today. Simple and inexpensive and festive. Happy Easter, Mrs. Lear!
