Home Preserving

Two of the teacher gifts have been put up. I thought the chunks of beeswax smelled good and would make the scarves smell good. Mostly it's just a visual. I've been reading Home Preserving and have plans for strawberry jam, red onion marmalade and whatever else looks good at the market this summer. The wine jellies sound so good. I like to say "jelly bag", although when I say it, I'm thinking "jello bag."

  1. I love bottling, jams, jellies, preserves. I spent a couple of summers in North Dakota as a child and was in awe of the bottles of fruit and vegetables in the basement. I think I am trying to recreate that .... the only thing is I think we bottle and preserve more than even we can eat!

What I love most of all, is not just preserving but foraging for wild fruit/flowers/mushrooms and preserving them. Somehow they are just a little bit more special when we eat them in the dark winter days.

  3. Ah - thank you! - now I know what you did with the beeswax. I've heard it is good for treating the needles when one is paper piercing: I feel a session of that coming on....think I have a beeswax candle somewhere....
Do your kids get to see the teacher open her present and report back to you?
