A few months ago, I found one of the young Lears trying to knot a bakery box ribbon around his neck because he thought he needed to look a little dressier to go out to dinner. The other day this J. Crew catalog came and the cover knit ties caught my attention. Wouldn't a little knit or crochet tie be just the thing, a somber color with a few crazy stripes, or a nice simple cable. We have some shindigs coming up.
Ah, hmmm... Note to J. Crew: If she can wear a tie, he should be doing that precious little pigeon-toe pose.
ReplyDeleteTies look great on a young chum. Shirly Paden had a pattern in IK some time ago for one that was just right. I think there might have been a few in knitty, too. And more birds for you and your redwork.
ReplyDeleteKnit ties - another 80s fave coming back. We'll see how popular they get.
ReplyDeleteNow that I know a little about knitting, I think those 80s ties were in seed/moss stitch.
Love the word "shindigs"! Hope you will post the details. I knit a scarf awhile ago in an arrow shape and it looks like a graciously goofy tie.
ReplyDeleteI was at a Kaffe Fassett slide show recently where he said that he had knit a tie from his Regia sock yarn. I could see this working in moss stitch.
ReplyDeleteHo hum. I had to wear a tie to go to school aged 3!!! By the time I went to weekly boarding school at 7 my mother tied it on Monday morning and I "recycled" it until Friday! Several years on with parents overseas and now a full boarder with no weekend tie support I finally learned to knot my own tie but have never been a huge tie fan. My daughters are fascinated by their father's ties ... that is all of them except for the eldest who has to wear a tie to school. Ergo English tie wearing school children will never grow up to be tie wearers unless they are boys and given no choice!!! However, as a female knitter I am very keen on the the tie. It is thin (no endless casting on ), it is short and offers endless possibilities for creativity in the colourway. DH watch out ... your neckwear will never be the same again !!
